Shelter Dog With ‘Tusks’ Is Looking For Someone To Love Him Just As He Is

The senior dog, Caesar, is obviously very bewildered and is still getting used to life in his foster home. Caesar was adopted from Ruff House Rescue when he was 6 months old and was recently returned to the rescue at the age of 10 and a half. Even with his walrus teeth, his foster family already adores him completely.

“When I first opened the car door, he was sitting in his dog bed nervously,” Kathleen Gioeli, Caesar’s foster mom, told The Dodo. “He looked up at me, and I immediately fell in love with his ‘tusks.’ I called my sister (who is my roommate/foster partner) and told her that he had arrived and he resembled a walrus. We say he’s a walrus by day, fruit bat by night — his big eyes and teeth are all you can see at night.”

Two of Caesar’s bottom teeth stick out of his mouth in a straight line. His former family reported to the rescue that he required tooth extractions each time they had him cleaned, and that his canines gradually shifted over time. He eats and drinks normally, and it doesn’t seem that his unique teeth are bothering him. He just so happens to have a walrus-like appearance, which is unquestionably not a negative thing.

Even though Caesar stands out because of his teeth, he would still prefer to blend in as he gradually gets used to his new environment. His foster family has enjoyed watching his cheerful personality gradually come out of hiding since they know it’s somewhere inside of him.

“He has kind eyes, he seeks human affection above all else, he is polite with my dogs and enjoys every last crumb of food given to him,” Gioeli said. “He also enjoys sunning himself, snuggling in my bed as well as his own bed, being held and, lastly, going for car rides. However, I know there are many more layers to his sweet soul that he hasn’t felt comfortable sharing yet. He will get there eventually with love and time!”

Potential adopters have already expressed interest in Caesar because of his walrus teeth, so hopefully, he won’t take long to find his permanent family. He still feels a little uneasy and is just looking for a family who will accept him for who he is, walrus teeth and all.
