And some go even further, by giving these rescued animals a loving home. That was the case for one firefighter, who fell in love with a kitten after rescuing her from a storm drain.

According to a Facebook post, nonprofit group Iowa STARS for Animals received a message from a woman named Stephanie, who reported hearing the sound of a cat crying coming from the sewer.

According to The Dodo, the kitten was trapped for four days, and no one was able to reach him. But then Tyson Hood, a lieutenant of the local fire department, heard the story on Facebook and volunteered to help.

Tyson said he did not have much experience with cats, and was warned that the kitten would likely be scared of him, but he couldn’t help but try to save the trapped kitten.

“I’m a bit of a sucker for animals in distress,” Tyson told The Dodo.

Stephanie, who had been feeding the kitten while he was stuck, showed Tyson the spot and the firefighter got to work. He removed the grate, and they lured the kitten out of the tunnel with tuna.

Tyson told The Dodo that the kitten sensed it was a trap, but he ate the tuna long enough for him to cover the tunnel with a net, preventing the cat from escaping and allowing Tyson to catch him.

Despite his initial fearfulness, the kitten quickly warmed up to his rescuers. “As soon as he was out of the sewer and in a safe space, he was an absolute lover — nonstop cuddles,” Tyson said.

“After that smelly little monster loved all over me, I sort of fell for him.”

But Tyson wasn’t in the market for a new pet, and instead Stephanie took him home. However, the situation did not work out, as Stephanie “felt he wasn’t a good fit for her family,” according to Iowa STARS.

After Stephanie reached out to Tyson to see if he would adopt the cat, the firefighter relented, unable to resist his connection with the tiny cat.

Tyson has now adopted the kitten, who he named “Walnut” after the street he was found on.

It’s inspiring that Tyson gave Walnut a home after saving his life, and the two have continued to have an inseparable bond.

“I fully believe he must have had some sort of emotional imprint of good times cuddling on my shoulders because that’s the only place he wants to be if I’m sitting still,” Tyson told The Dodo. “He purrs like a chainsaw and headbutts like a rhinoceros and for some reason insists on sleeping splayed across my neck.”

“I feel like we understand each other, and we both had a pretty darn good day when our paths crossed.”

It was a very happy ending, one that was clearly meant to be. Iowa STARS praised Tyson for his kindhearted actions.

“The fact that a firefighter adopted a small kitten he rescued out of a storm sewer is truly heart warming,” the nonprofit wrote. “I hope those folks who work in fire and law enforcement occupations do this more often. Tyson is a fantastic role model of toughness mixed with a lot of compassion for this tiny precious life.”

“‘Congratulations’ Tyson on your new kitten. Happy Trails to you and Walnut,” they added, while encouraging people to rescue pets and “adopt, not shop.”

Thank you to Tyson for not only saving this poor trapped kitten from the sewer but giving him a loving forever home! It was definitely meant to be!

The same happened to a mother cat who put herself in mortal danger to save her beloved children from a burning house.

When firefighters were called to a burning garage in Brooklyn, USA, they observed how the brave cat kept rushing into the building to get her kittens out of the flames one by one.

She ran inside a total of five times and carried her five kittens out one by one. Each time outside, the mama nudged her little ones against their noses to see if they were still alive.

After she was able to carry them all to safety, Scarlett, the name given to the cat later, collapsed from sheer excitement and exertion.

According to a user on Reddit, it was firefighter David Giannelli who witnessed the mama cat bravely tending to her offspring.

“Scarlett had already burned herself and was hurting more every time she went into the house. Her eyes were already swollen shut, her ears and paws burned, and her fur was already scorched,” you can read in the post.

“Most of her facial hair had burned away. After she rescued her children, you could see her nudging each kitten with her nose to make sure they were okay and alive. She couldn’t see anything because of the burns and passed out shortly after.”

Firefighters, meanwhile, managed to put out the fire and got medical help for the little animals and their mom. Unfortunately, one of the kittens did not survive it, but the other four fortunately survived largely unscathed and were adopted a short time later.

Adopted by family in Brooklyn

The brave cat’s story garnered media attention around the world, and books were even written about her with titles such as “Scarlett Saves Her Family” and “The Bravest Cat.”

Scarlett was also subsequently adopted by a family in Brooklyn and lived happily with them until her death.

There was even an award named after her by The North Shore Animal League, who initially took care of Scarlett and her kittens to commemorate her heroic efforts

Lauren Maners has always loved rescuing animals and giving them shelter, but as she was preparing for the birth of her daughter Kylie she decided to take a break of doing that for a while.

“I had a long history of caring for animals as well as their rehabilitation, but as I got closer to the end of my pregnancy and giving birth I decided that it was time to take a break of all that, because the animals that I cared for mostly had some kind of disease and needed much care, which I wouldn’t have time for any longer as soon as the baby was born”, Maners said.

She was very sure about her decision – until she met Dove.

On the same morning, on which Maners made her decision for not giving shelter to a cat for a while, she and her husband were driving home after a breakfast, as they suddenly noticed a wounded cat in an empty parking space. She immediately told her husband to stop the car, to find out what had happened to the cat. At this moment she realized that the poor cat wasn’t only wounded, but also pregnant.

“I knew that she was hurt and kind of felt attached to her, since we both were heavily pregnant”, Maners said. “I got to catch her by attracting her with our leftovers and then wrapping her into my Jacket. We then brought her to the vet to check her up.”

After the vet checked up on her, the couple took the cat, which they later called Dove, to their home and made sure that she got settled in their house and felt comfortable. They asked around, if she had a family searching for her, but instead they found out from locals that she had been a stray for most of her lifetime. Therefore, Maners decided to break her own rules and care for the pregnant cat-mom and her future kittens and lastly to help them find a perfect home.

It didn’t take much time until Dove felt very comfortable in her new home, and it was obvious that she would bring birth to her babies at this place. The two pregnant moms became friends very quickly and loved spending the last weeks of their pregnancies together.

“She followed me everywhere and loved sitting with me outside in the garden every morning and getting petted on her belly, while we had breakfast together”, Maners said.

Eventually it was time for Maners to give birth to her daughter Kylie – and as they returned home from hospital she realized, that Dove as well gave birth to her kittens.

“They were probably born at the same time”, she said.

Dove gave birth to 6 adorable baby cats and Maners couldn’t believe how special it was that they gave birth at the same time. As the kittens grew up, Kylie as well grew up. So the babies of both moms were able to play together and to discover the big great world.

„When my daughter was 5 weeks old she started to recognize the kittens when I brought them to her and my husband to help me feeding them and giving them attention”, Maners said. “The kittens were also very curious when they saw Kylie”.

After giving shelter to the sweet little family and caring for them for months, Maners and her family found a forever home for all seven of them. They were sad that they couldn’t keep even one of the cats, but thankfully not a single cat lives far away from them, therefore Maners and Kylie can still see their best friends from time to time.

“Thankfully the cat-mom lives with a friend of mine, so that I still get news about her and several babies also live with people that I know, therefore I can even visit them”, Maners said.

Maners went from „not having foster animals during pregnancy” to caring for a heavily pregnant cat-mom and giving birth at about the same time. Neither she nor her daughter Kylie will ever forget this experience.

But as one woman tried to get her keys out of a narrow hole, she got some impressive help from an unlikely friend.

Luh Meira, from Brazil, was hanging out outside with her young son when something unfortunate happened: the little boy was playing with his mom’s keys, and dropped them down into a hole.

“I was sitting with him, we were sunbathing. He was playing, so he took the key and put it in there,” she told local outlet Amo Meu Pet, translated from Portuguese.

Unfortunately, the hole was too small to reach into by hand, leaving the keys just out of reach.

Luh tries to fish the keys out with a stick, to no avail. It seems like there’s no way to get the keys out — but then an unlikely neighbor decided to help.

It was Pantera, a black cat belonging to one of Luh’s neighbors. Seeing his neighbors trying to get something out of the hole, Pantera decided to join in.

“He was already there playing in the grass and then he came and started putting his paw in,” Luh said.

With his slender paws, Pantera is able to reach down into the hole — and to Luh’s amazement, actually grabs the keys!

It takes a few tries, but with Luh cheering him on and encouraging him, Pantera actually gets the keys out of the hole. “It was very quick for him to get the key,” Luh told Amo Meu Pet. “I believe in 20 seconds he got that key.”

The unbelievable moment was caught on camera by Luh, and it went viral on TikTok, currently with over 8 million views.

“And they say black cats are bad luck,” Luh joked in the caption.

“If I didn’t film it, no one would believe it,” Luh told The Dodo. “I was surprised, because I thought he put his paw in the hole just to play, but his intention was to really get the keys. I was super happy.”

She said she gave Pantera a toy and some treats. Far from being “bad luck,” this black cat quickly became one of her favorite animals.

“He won my love,” she. “I was already in love with cats, but now there’s no question.”

And this week, one woman reunited with her cat after four years after recognizing his face on an adoption page.

According to the Humane Society of Richland County, a woman named Britni contacted them about a cat they called “Bagel.” She believed Bagel was actually her cat that went missing four years ago.

While the shelter was happy to entertain the idea, they had some doubts.

“When people call us to say that they think that a cat in our care is one that they lost long ago, it’s typically wishful thinking,” the Humane Society wrote in a Facebook post.

However, when Britni sent photos and a description of her cat, they were “absolutely shocked” after seeing the similarities, and realized that their “Bagel” might actually be her long-lost Tike.

After that amazing discovery, Britni arrived at the shelter, and reunited after so many years apart.

“Watching the expression on a person’s face when they are reunited with their long lost pet is an absolutely indescribable feeling,” the Humane Society wrote. “Absolute pure joy.”

Seeing each other for the first time in four years was a joyous and emotional moment for Britni and Tike.

“Happy tears AND happy dance for this long overdue reunion,” they added.

Even after four years apart, she never forgot her beautiful cat’s face — what a miracle they found each other again after so long.

Now, one woman is calling her dog a hero after he helped save her baby’s life, alerting the parents in time after the child stopped breathing.

Kelly Andrew, from Boston, Massachusetts, is the owner of a Boston terrier named Henry. Recently, the dog started acting up in the middle of the night, and kept breaking into their nursery and waking Kelly’s baby.

Kelly says she became “fed up” with her dog’s behavior, especially since the baby had been sick.

But then, she noticed her baby wasn’t breathing.

Her daughter was rushed to the hospital — and Kelly realized that Henry wasn’t causing a disturbance, but was trying to save the baby’s life.

Somehow, the dog instinctively knew something was wrong. By keeping the baby awake, and helping to alert the parents, Henry likely saved the child’s life, allowing her to get medical help before it was too late.

“I don’t know what would have happened if he hadn’t woken her,” Kelly wrote on Twitter. “We don’t deserve dogs.”

The baby spent the night at the hospital, and is now “doing much better,” according to the mom.

Kelly also says that her heroic dog Henry “bravely held the fort all night even though he is scared of the dark.”

She also thanked the ER department Connecticut Children’s Hospital for being “literal heroes” and helping her daughter.

But it was good dog Henry who got a lot of the attention as the story went viral. People were amazed at the dog’s instincts — and some even shared their own similar stories, showing how life-saving dogs can be… even when it seems like bad dog behavior.

“We couldn’t figure out for the longest time why my service dog kept going in to my parents room several times a night sniffing my dad’s face and nudging him repeatedly,” one woman replied. “They always pushed her away and she would still circle back. She stopped as soon as he got his pacemaker.”

“I’m chronically ill. There’s been many a time I’ve gone to the hospital because one of my dogs has started sniffing and paying attention to a body part and alerting something’s wrong,” another wrote. “Dogs are heroes!”

We’re so glad this baby is safe now, thanks to the quick-thinking of this heroic dog! Good boy, Henry!

Emily is a three-year-old girl who has grown up with her best friend always by her side: her pet goldendoodle, Rudy.

“They are the best of friends,” Kaylee Slobotski, Emily’s mom, told The Dodo.

On October 26, the Nebraska family was at home, and Emily, like so many toddlers, asked to watch her favorite movie “for the 100th time”: the classic Disney movie Beauty and the Beast.

This time, Emily decided to really get into the spirit of the movie and asked to wear her yellow Belle dress. But of course you can’t have a beauty without a beast, and luckily Emily had a perfect partner: Rudy had his own “Beast” costume, the blue jacket seen in the movie.

And when it came to the iconic ballroom scene, the toddler & dog got up to reenact the dance:

The two sway as Angela Lansbury sings the theme song on TV. Emily leads while Rudy patiently follows along.

Kaylee watched the adorable scene and caught it on video. “It was the sweetest little moment,” she said. “I couldn’t handle it when she tried to put her head on his shoulder.”

She posted the video on Facebook, where it’s taken the internet by storm. It currently has over 11 million views and thousands of comments. People can’t get enough of the precious moment.

Still, the animal shelter they ended up in was the worst kind of shelter—the kind that kills dogs who don’t find new homes.

The future looked bleak for the two friends, but luckily, Cindy Droogmans from A-Team Elite Rescue Dogs saw them before it was too late. She felt a connection with the two dogs and decided to save them.

Cindy made sure that both Apollo and Adonis were moved to Huntington, New York. Once there, they were examined by a veterinarian and treated for cardiac failure, which was probably why they were abandoned by their owner in the first place.

When the dogs were healthy, Cindy started searching for a new home for them. The last thing she wanted was to tear the friends apart; it would take away the only comfort they had left. But finding a home for two dogs is hard.

“A bonded pair is always difficult to place, but look at them. How can they ever be split up?” Cindy told The Dodo.

Pictures of Apollo and Adonis were shared on Facebook. And in the end, a woman named Jennifer saw them and immediately sent an adoption application.

She and her husband, Donald, already had two rescue dogs. But she lives in a big house with a huge backyard, so she has plenty of space. Apollo and Adonis would be a perfect addition to her family.

A day after Jennifer filled out her application, she received the word that she’d been approved.

But then something scary happened. The dogs had just arrived at their new home when Adonis got scared and ran away. With all the environmental changes, new people, and visits to the vet, he couldn’t manage stress anymore—and ran.

Adonis’ best friend, Apollo, and his new owners Jennifer and Donald panicked and the search began.

Hours went by and Jennifer and Cindy became increasingly worried. Would they get Adonis back to his new home, where he would finally be safe? How would his best friend Apollo live without him?

Twenty-four long hours later, Adonis was found unharmed.

“The trackers team did an amazing job. I was crying and shaking all over. He is back with his brother,” Cindy said.

Now Adonis must know that he’s safe in his new home. He and Apollo finally have the love they deserve.

“They are doing great and getting used to their new house. They are very sweet babies and a perfect addition to our family!” says Jennifer.

What a wonderful ending to this story! How lucky that they found Adonis. I’m so happy these two friends have a wonderful new home and that they’re together.

But sadly, sometimes dogs are loyal to owners who don’t deserve or reciprocate their love. That was the case for one poor pup, who was abandoned in a cardboard box, but kept waiting in vain for her owner to return, in spite of the grueling heat.

According to nonprofit rescue Dallas Dog, the 10-month-old puppy was left on the side of the road. Despite everything, the pup refused to move from her box.

“She just sat there,” Dallas Dog wrote on Facebook. “Waiting and waiting hoping some one would come back.”

“She never left… she just stayed in the box waiting.”

She had been abandoned, left in the middle of nowhere by her owner — but the dog didn’t seem to know that, and loyally waited for them to return.

She didn’t budge — even though she was out in the sweltering heat. The temperature was reportedly over 104 degrees, with a head index over 110.

Thankfully, a neighbor found the dog and gave her water. She called animal control, who came and picked her up.

The dog was named “Harvest” — because the box she was found in was for “Premium Harvest Seasoned Diced Potatoes.”

Harvest was taken in by Dallas Dog. Even on the way to the shelter, the scared dog still refused to leave her box. When she arrived at her kennel, the shelter volunteers decided to just leave it with her.

“They left the box in her kennel because that was her security,” Dallas Dog president Patti Dawson told The Dodo. “You could just see her shoulders and body trembling from fear.”

It was clear the scared pup needed some extra love, so Dallas Dog urgently looked for a foster home.

Thankfully, they soon found one, and Harvest got to experience a loving home for the first time. Her personality soon began to shine through, and photos show how she traded her cardboard box for a cozy bed:

“It took her about a week before she really opened up, and she hasn’t slowed down or looked back since,” Dawson told The Dodo.

This dog hasn’t found her happy ending just yet: she’s still in foster care and looking for another family to adopt her for good.

But as Dallas Dog works to find her a forever home, Harvest is in good hands in her foster home, recovering and receiving plenty of much-needed love.

It’s heartbreaking that this poor puppy was abandoned, and that she waited so long for her owner to return. But she’s already come a long way since then, and we hope she finds her forever home soon!

Thousands of comments praise the smart dog dog for his kindness, amazed by the dog’s ability.

“We humans really don’t deserve them!! They are just amazing!” one top comment reads.

Nothing is known about the man or his dog. It isn’t clear how regular a routine this is, though it definitely seems like the dog knows what he’s doing.
